Sunny Hostin & Whoopi Goldberg Disagree Over ICE
Like most talk shows and news programs these days, The View discusses a lot of political topics. The death of Alex Pretti in Minneapolis, Minnesota, at the hands of Border Patrol, has been a huge topic in the last week. His death came weeks after another incident with ICE that cost Renee Good her life.
It was nearly impossible to escape seeing the disturbing video of Alex Pretti’s death. The footage was so widespread that celebrities who usually stayed quiet about politics spoke out. On Thursday’s episode of The View, Whoopi Goldberg brought up Martha Stewart’s statements against ICE to the “Hot Topics” table.
Sunny Hostin took the stance that celebrities have the responsibility of speaking out about these types of situations. “This may be an unpopular opinion, but I think that if you do not speak out when something so… these atrocities are happening, you are almost complicit.”
Whoopi Goldberg, who is known for being outspoken, disagreed. “I’m going to contradict you. No, I know not everybody is built for this. Yeah, because speaking out is not for everyone, and we don’t live in a society where people will let you say what you have to say,” she said.
“So if you have the stomach for it, if you can do it, please do. If you can’t do it, find a different way to connect that’s better,” Whoopi Goldberg added before trying to end the segment. However, Sunny Hostin wasn’t done sharing her thoughts.
“It’s Biblical. I mean, if you think about it, Jesus waded into the water. It was muddy water. He didn’t have to wade,” Sunny Hostin said. Whoopi Goldberg responded, “But not everybody believes in Jesus. Do what you can, if you can,” and ended the segment.
The View Fans Blast Host’s Annoying ‘Know-It-All’ Behavior
Sunny Hostin and Whoopi Goldberg are usually on the same side of issues. Their disagreement over ICE surprised some viewers. One fan took to Reddit to blast Whoopi Goldberg’s behavior.

Other viewers took to the comments to share their thoughts on Whoopi Goldberg’s behavior.
- “Whoopi has convinced herself (maybe from being an EGOT) that she’s super special. I’m guessing some ego and a little narcissism feeds that self opinion.”
- “Maybe stop paying her $8 million per year (if that’s accurate). It encourages her to think her opinion is very important.”
