Many people tune in to The View weekdays for the daily “Hot Topics” discussion and celebrity guests. Yet, the show looked a little different this week. Moderator Whoopi Goldberg was absent from Monday’s taping. Fans questioned the decision. Keep reading to find out more about the situation.
Whoopi Goldberg Absent From TV Taping
Whoopi Goldberg has been a mainstay on The View for nearly two decades. She replaced Rosie O’Donnell as moderator and co-host in 2007. As the show approaches its 30th anniversary, the actress shows no indication that she’s leaving. She has, however, taken time off over the years. She took a few weeks off in late 2025 to film a guest role on an Italian soap opera.
But her absence from the studio on Monday’s episode was unplanned. Sara Haines, Ana Navarro, Sunny Hostin, and guest co-host Amanda Carpenter walked out at the start of the show and sat in their chairs like normal. But one chair was left empty. Whoopi Goldberg wasn’t in the studio to film the show.
In a virtual video, she explained her surprising absence. “Welcome to The View. You know, I’m coming to you remotely because this crazy, historic blizzard that is slamming the East Coast has snowed me in,” she told viewers. New York City was hit hard by the storm. Some areas got a foot and a half of snow.
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani declared a state of emergency, issued a travel ban, and encouraged New Yorkers to stay home. Whoopi Goldberg did just that. The show even shut down to a live studio audience.
The View Fans Question No-Show
Whoopi Goldberg did appear on The View, but remotely. Fans took to social media to question the decision. One viewer kicked off a Reddit discussion by suggesting another co-host should have moderated instead.
- “I like Whoopie, but she slows down the discussion on the best of days, but when she’s remote it’s even more obvious. Would’ve been better to just have Sarah moderate today.”
Whoopi Goldberg stayed home for her own safety, but viewers hated the format change to the panel.
- “Unbelievable – you know she just flat out refused to go.”
- “Watching them in the little squares like it’s covid days was annoying, especially when 80% of the panel was in the studio.”
- “Either put her up in a hotel across from the studio or just give her a snow day.”
- “The delay made it unwatchable. That show is just not good remote”
- “Everybody knew this weather was coming for at least a week. Why didn’t production put Whoopi up in the hotel?”
- “Come on now Whoopi…. “If Ana can get in from Miami, you can get in from New Jersey.”
