Whoopi Goldberg Shares Retirement Plans
Whoopi Goldberg is a highly decorated actress with a long career before turning to the ABC talk show. She’s one of the few EGOT winners, nabbing an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony awards in her long career. She recently took a break from The View to film an Italian soap opera.
However, she has no plans to leave the ABC talk show. After Joy Behar, 83, expressed a desire to retire someday, Whoopi Goldberg said she won’t. No, she said she can’t retire. The Oscar-winning actress claimed that she couldn’t afford to retire. The comments were largely mocked on social media.
According to multiple outlets, Whoopi Goldberg’s contract with the talk show was quietly extended. She reportedly earns about $8 million a year.
The View Fans Think It’s Time For Her To Go
Whoopi Goldberg, 70, is the second-oldest host on The View. She recently made headlines for completely tuning out of a “Hot Topics” discussion that bored her, a common occurrence on the talk show.
An annoyed viewer took to Reddit to blast Whoopi Goldberg’s frustrating behavior.
- “Has anyone else noticed how Whoopi interjects to make overly dramatized yet vaguely empty statements that don’t add to the conversation?”
They added,
- “Totally overwhelms the useful exchanges! Whoopi wants to be THE voice of authority, but she doesn’t come as prepared and researched as other panelists, particularly Sunny and Ana.”
The moderator’s behavior didn’t go unnoticed by other viewers. At least one fan of the show suggested it’s time for Whoopi Goldberg to retire.
- “She’s trying to make a point but it never hits home.”
- “Whoopi talks over everyone. Acting as if she knows what she and they are talking about. She makes noises as others are speaking acting like she has a clue as to what is being said”
- “Yes, all the time. It’s very annoying. It’s almost like she’s intentionally trying to waste precious time bloviating absolutely nothing. I know she’s been around a long time but I have never understood why she’s so popular. She’s not funny, offers no insights and is my least favorite on the show. I wish she would do us all a favor and retire.”
- “Yeah it’s annoying af. She lost the plot.”
- “This has been going on for a long time. I’m surprised they still have her on the show.”
- “I always fast forward the show when Whoopi starts speaking otherwise I can’t stand it”
