The producers of The View were in a tough spot finding temporary guests to replace Alyssa Farah Griffin. Among the names they chose was former host Elisabeth Hasselbeck. She hasn’t been back on the show since dissing Joy Behar and calling the daytime show a “sinking ship” last year. Fans weren’t happy about the news of Elisabeth’s return. Joy Behar shared her reaction to the surprising backlash.
The View Fans Blast Elisabeth Hasselbeck’s Return
Elisabeth Hasselbeck joined The View as co-host in 2003, two years after she became a household name while competing on Survivor. She was on the show for a decade before leaving. Her next move was hosting on Fox & Friends. The former host has returned to the ABC talk show multiple times over the years.
However, she blasted Joy Behar and The View last year after Joy’s comments about Carrie Underwood performing at Trump’s inauguration. Elisabeth Hasselbeck called the show a “sinking ship,” but now she’s among the upcoming guest co-hosts.
The View host Alyssa Farah Griffin was scheduled to start her maternity leave the week of February 16, but her leave started this week after her son arrived early. The news that Elisabeth Hasselbeck was coming back as host didn’t sit right with some fans. They took to social media to blast the decision.

- “Why is she coming back if she’s trash talking the hosts and the show?! I don’t understand her motivation.”
- “Don’t care to hear anything she has to say!! Bad choice!!”
- “I have zero interest in seeing her on The View or anywhere else for that matter.”
- “The only thing sinking is Elisabeth’s relevence, which already sunk long ago. She has no career, no fame.”
Many viewers vowed not to watch when Elisabeth Hasselbeck is on.
Joy Behar Reacts To Backlash, Shares Advice
The View executive producer Brian Teta addressed the backlash during an episode of the show’s Behind the Table podcast featuring Joy Behar. The EP said he was “surprised” by the negative reactions, and asked Joy Behar for her thoughts, noting that she had worked with Elisabeth Hasselbeck for ten years.
Joy Behar seemed unbothered by Elisabeth Hasselbeck’s comments last year. “It’s fine, she’s a good kid,” she said. She wondered if other former hosts, such as Rosie O’Donnell or Michelle Collins would get the same negative reaction from viewers.
“She’s a nice kid. She comes from a very nice family. Actually, her parents are Democrats. So I don’t know where she comes up with this Republican position, but she — I think maybe her husband, when she got married — she became more conservative,” Joy Behar said about Elisabeth Hasselbeck.
The longtime host of The View had words of wisdom for all of the guest hosts: “Don’t take it too much to heart if everybody else disagrees with you. Hold your own and don’t get mad.”
