The View has had a consistent format for its nearly 20-year run. However, a huge emergency caused several big changes on the show this week, which fans didn’t love. Keep reading to find out what happened.
The View Undergoes Huge Emergency Changes
The View panel looks a bit different this month. Alyssa Farah Griffin went on maternity leave. Reality star Savannah Chrisley stepped in last week as the first of several temporary fill-ins. Conservative activist Amanda Carpenter co-hosts for three days this week, from Monday to Wednesday.
She walked out with Sara Haines, Ana Navarro, and Sunny Hostin at the start of Monday’s show. The View moderator Whoopi Goldberg was noticeably absent. She quickly showed up on the video monitor to let fans know what was going on.
“Welcome to The View. You know, I’m coming to you remotely because this crazy, historic blizzard that is slamming the East Coast has snowed me in,” she explained. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani enacted a travel ban on Sunday amid a dangerous blizzard. The City That Never Sleeps was put on mandatory bed rest until Monday afternoon.
Fans Can’t Get To Studio
Whoopi Goldberg wasn’t the only one who couldn’t make it to the studio for The View taping. In a rare occurrence, the show went on without a live studio audience amid the travel ban. While it’s not common, this was the second time this year the studio audience was empty because of the weather.

Viewers React To Sudden Changes
The View fans can be a hard bunch to please. One viewer took to Reddit with a wild theory about why Whoopi Goldberg zoomed in instead of taking the day off.
- “Theory: Whoopi has it in her contract that only Joy can moderate the show in her place.”
Other fans vented about the disappointing episode.
- “This is nothing new. Barbara wanted to moderate on her last day of the show and Whoopi said absolutely not.”
- “I just turned it on to watch and was so confused when I saw no audience. If I was in New York today and had tickets to see the show, I wouldn’t be happy. Also, ALLLLL of New York knew the snow storm was coming and Whoopi knew she had a live show in the morning.”
- “t wouldn’t surprise me if she used every maneuver she could think of to block anyone else from sparing us from the daily discomfort of watching her stumble her way from one segment into the next.”
- “Today was ridiculous, Whoopi should have been there or the show should have gone on without her.”
New York City paid volunteers to help shovel the snow and clean the city up for travel. Whoopi Goldberg should return to the ABC talk show this week.
