Despite being in the public eye for decades, the EGOT winner leads a very private life. Whoopi Goldberg has been married three times. Her first marriage to Alvin Martin was from 1973 until 1979. Her second marriage to David Claessen lasted from 1986 until 1988. Her third marriage to Lyle Trachtenberg in 1994. ended after a year. The View host only has one child, a daughter, Alex Martin, with her first husband.

Whoopi Goldberg became a grandmother when she was in her thirties. Her daughter has three children – Amara Dean, 36, Jerzey Dean, 29, and Mason Dean, 27. The Ghost actress became a great-grandma for the first time in 2014 when her eldest grandchild, Amara, welcomed a daughter, Charli Rose.
