The View host Whoopi Goldberg rarely regrets the things she says or does. But she issued a huge on-air apology for past behavior. Keep reading to find out what prompted the apology.
The View Featured In Netflix Docuseries
The View has been on the air for nearly 30 years. The backstage happenings and feuds could someday be the subject of a documentary. Fans would love it. It hasn’t happened yet, but the daytime talk show did make a surprise appearance in a recent Netflix docuseries.
The streaming giant took a look behind the scenes at a popular reality show from the early 2000s. America’s Top Model was created by supermodel Tyra Banks and premiered in 2003. It was a surprise hit. The early seasons only featured female models looking for their big break.
The contestants went through outlandish photoshoots and runway shows. Cycle 14 featured a catwalk challenge where the models had to walk a runway while avoiding a huge pendulum swinging in their path. Contestant Alexandra Underwood fell off the runway after the pendulum hit her. The Netflix docuseries unearthed footage of The View discussing it on the show years ago.
Whoopi Goldberg Issues Huge On-Air Apology
Whoopi Goldberg has been the moderator on The View for 18 seasons. She’s never afraid to share her opinion, but sometimes, it lands her in hot water. She was suspended from the ABC talk show for two weeks in 2022 for saying that the Holocaust wasn’t about race. She later apologized for the remarks.

The America’s Next Top Model docuseries is a huge topic right now, so of course, The View had to address it. Whoopi Goldberg issued a rare on-air apology for laughing at the pendulum incident.
“Here’s something I want to do, because in this documentary there’s a clip from our show, where I had showed the ladies this thing,” Whoopi Goldberg said on Wednesday’s episode. “Now, this was, to me, one of the funniest things I had ever seen in my life.”
The View host continued, “I wanted to apologize, because there’s a person who got knocked off that. And her name is Alexandra Underwood from Cycle 14. I’m sorry I laughed at this. I couldn’t help it. It was funny as h**l. But I am telling you, it’s one of the funniest things, if I had to point to something. It is one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen.”
Joy Behar joked that Whoopi Goldberg is mostly sorry that she’s still laughing at the incident. “Next week, you’re going to apologize for this,” Joy said.
Whoopi Goldberg laughing on The View was the least shocking revelation in the ANTM docuseries. Tyra Banks came under fire for a lack of accountability regarding the treatment of the contestants. She hinted at the show returning for Cycle 25. Tell us in the comments what you thought of Whoopi Goldberg’s apology.
