Whoopi Goldberg has lived an amazing life. She is one of the few people to achieve EGOT status. That is, she’s won all four of America’s biggest awards – an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony Award. In addition to her career as an actress and comedian, Whoopi Goldberg has co-hosted The View for nearly twenty years.
But now she’s putting the ABC talk show behind her to chase another dream of a lifetime. Keep reading for all the details on her next adventure.
Whoopi Goldberg Leaves The View To Chase Another Dream
Whoopi Goldberg has been the moderator on The View for eighteen seasons now. She recently celebrated her birthday with the studio audience. But now she’s left Manhattan, New York, behind for Europe.
The longtime host of the ABC talk show won’t be on this week at all. Things on the show have already gone off the rails amid Whoopi Goldberg’s absence. She previously missed episodes in June when she was in Italy receiving an award for her Bits and Pieces memoir.
She revealed at the time that she was asked to film a role on Un Posto Al Sole, Italy’s long-running soap opera. That’s what Whoopi Goldberg is doing this week instead of appearing on The View.
She spoke about her return to acting with The View executive producer Brian Teto recently. “It’s great because you love acting and it’s nice for you to get a break from here occasionally. We will miss you desperately,” the producer told Whoopi on the show’s Behind the Table podcast.
She Said It’s ‘Time’ To Do Other Things
During the podcast, Whoopi Goldberg pointed out that The View is the longest job she’s ever had. “It’s time for me to do some things in addition to this,” she said. The actress also shared her dream of taking a role in politics someday.

Despite looking elsewhere for work, her leave of absence from The View isn’t permanent. “But you’ll be back, which is the important thing to mention,” Brian Teto said on the podcast.
Whoopi Goldberg shared a photo on Instagram of her getting her makeup done in Italy. “If you notice I’m not on ‘The View’ this week, it’s because I’m in Italy working,” she wrote on the snapshot of her in the makeup chair on the set of the Italian soap opera.
Whoopi Goldberg Joins Animated Cat Series
Whoopi Goldberg won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her iconic role as psychic Oda Mae Brown. Her character helps Sam (Patrick Swayze) communicate with Molly (Demi Moore) after his murder.
For her next role in America, Whoopi Goldberg is among the cast of an animated series about a cat named Kevin who unexpectedly finds himself surrendered to an animal rescue after a breakup with his owners. According to Deadline, the adult animated series has a 2026 release date on Prime Video.
While Whoopi Goldberg wants to spread her wings in her acting career, she hasn’t given any indication that she plans to leave The View.
