The View host Whoopi Goldberg clapped back at criticism over Star Trek going ‘woke’ in a new Paramount+ series. The actresses admonished a high-level Trump official to focus on real-life tragedy. Keep reading to find out more about her harsh reaction to the Star Trek slander.
New Star Trek Series Slammed As ‘Woke’ By Trump Official
NBC launched the Star Trek franchise nearly 60 years ago. The initial series, which starred William Shatner as Captain Kirk, ran for only three seasons. But the show’s popularity in syndication spawned multiple spinoffs and movies. Paramount+ ventured into the science fiction universe with Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, which follows a fresh class of space cadets.
The new series premiered earlier this month, and it’s already making waves on social media. Stephen Miller, who has a prominent role in President Trump’s administration, tweeted his disdain for the new Star Trek show. He reposted a short clip from the End Wokeness Twitter account, adding his own thoughts.
“Tragic. But it’s not too late for @paramountplus to save the franchise. Step 1: Reconcile with @WilliamShatner and give him total creative control,” Stephen Miller tweeted.
The short clip showed an interaction between Nahla Ake (Holly Hunter), Lura Thok (Gina Yashere), and Lt. Rork (Tricia Black.) The “woke” part of the clip seemed to be Holly Hunter’s character putting on a pair of glasses. But Star Trek: Starfleet Academy has come under fire for promoting diversity and featuring non-binary characters.

The View Host Whoopi Goldberg Reacts To Digs, Tells Haters To Focus On Real Life Tragedy
In addition to hosting The View, Whoopi Goldberg is an Oscar-winning actress. One of her most popular roles was Guinan on Star Trek: The Next Generation. She also appeared in several of the franchise’s films. So, she did not take kindly to Stephen Miller or anyone insulting the franchise.
She angrily reacted to the Trump official’s tweet. “Why are you concentrating on a television show, while people are being shot and killed?” she asked angrily. “While people are going hungry. When farmers are losing their farms. Kids can’t get meals at school. Why you paying attention to this?”
“Please, do your job, and we actors and people from outer space will do ours,” The View host added.

Whoopi Goldberg also defended the idea behind the Star Trek franchise. “This was a show that was created with the idea that people from other planets would come, and we would all find a way to exist together. This was Gene’s idea, this was his dream. And when you watch ‘Star Trek,’ that’s what it shows you,” Whoopi Goldberg said, referencing Gene Roddenberry, who created the cultural phenomenon.
New episodes of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy drop on Paramount+ on Thursdays. If you’ve seen the show, tell us in the comments if you think it’s “woke.”
