We are now two days into the 2026 Montana’s Brier in St. John’s, Newfoundland and there are three teams undefeated at two wins and zero losses. They are Newfoundland’s Brad Gushue, Ontario’s Jayden King, and Team Canada’s Brad Jacobs.
Gushue, King and Jacobs all played in the evening draw. It was Jacobs who was tested the most among the three teams. He led Team Canada to an 8-6 win over Saskatchewan.
Saskatchewan is represented by skip Kelly Knapp of Regina. Knapp actually had a commanding 4-2 lead after five ends before an impressive three points by Jacobs in the sixth end to take a 5-4 lead. One area of concern for Team Saskatchewan was the play of third Brennen Jones, who curled at 73% and was outplayed by Team Canada third Marc Kennedy, who was at 84%. Jones missed a few shots which put Knapp into difficult situations.
Gushue improved to 2-0 with a 10-2 win over Nunavut. King is 2-0 after an 8-3 win over Prince Edward Island.
Jacobs and Gushue bring a wealth of curling experience to the Brier. That is because they are both Olympic gold medalists. Gushuew skipped Canada to gold at the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Turin, and Jacobs skipped Canada to gold at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi and the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo.
