The Today Show hosted a very special and candid interview with Savannah Guthrie more than 50 days after her mother was abducted. This has wrecked her world, but she wanted to have her voice heard. Selected to do the interview with Savannah was Hoda Kotb, a close friend and former co-host. Unfortunately, Craig Melvin was allegedly “devastated” over Hoda being chosen as the host. Craig Melvin ‘Devastated’ Over Savannah Interview
When Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy, 84, went missing in the early hours of February 1st, 2026, her world was shaken. Savannah had just returned to the Today Show after vocal cord surgery and was settling back in. Sadly, her world was turned upside down, and she had no idea how she would rebound or recover. Her co-hosts were right there by her side in an attempt to ease her pain. She only spoke out on social media, sometimes alone and sometimes with her siblings, Camron and Annie.
Then, in the week of March 27th, Savannah sat down with close friend and former Today anchor, Hoda Kotb. She spoke about her grief and what she was feeling over 50 days after her mother was abducted. Additionally, her return to work date was revealed. However, Craig Melvin is allegedly “devastated” that he was not chosen to do the interview. An insider shared that he wanted to have a special “moment” with his good friend. Moreover, it was a slap in the face, per the insider:
“He wasn’t just passed over — he wasn’t even asked. That’s what really stings. Craig believed he’d earned that spot.”
It was also noted that Craig Melvin allegedly harbored resentment toward Hoda Kotb, given that she left the Today Show. However, he never did, so he felt it was unfair that she got the interview since she was just a fill-in.
Is He Enough?
At this point, Craig Melvin allegedly wonders if he is enough at the Today Show. If he cannot have an interview that he so desperately wanted and feels he deserved, then is he valued? Savannah Guthrie will be back very soon, and viewers applaud her courage. That being said, Hoda Kotb should be exiting as she was just filling in for her good friend. She had left at the beginning of 2025 to be with her family and launched her own projects. Despite the insider claims, the show disputes the allegations:
“Craig was looped in and fully supportive of Savannah’s interview with Hoda.”
