The most iconic voice in documentary history is back! Netflix has just released the trailer for A Gorilla Story: Told By David Attenborough, an intimate new documentary following the Pablo Group gorillas in Rwanda, which you can watch below!
David Attenborough first met Pablo the silverback gorilla almost 50 years ago on a visit to the Dr Fossey research camp while filming the BBC’s Life on Earth series. Over the last several years, while under the scientific guidance of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, three cameramen have documented an unprecedented 250 days in the lives of Pablo’s family, the largest known group of mountain gorillas.
“The events captured during filming so beautifully reveal the intricate social lives of gorillas – from deep family bonds and friendships to struggles for dominance and loss and grief.” – Tara Stoinski, PhD, CEO of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund.
Blended with archival footage of Attenborough’s first encounter with the gorillas, audiences also get an extra special personal touch through Attenborough’s narration of his personal diaries from the time. Attenborough joined the project at 96-years-old, and the film reaches audiences just in time for his 100th birthday!
The film is directed by Oscar-winning documentarian James Reed.
Synopsis:
This intimate documentary blends the remarkable story of David Attenborough’s first encounter with the baby gorilla Pablo with a deep dive into how Pablo’s direct descendants are doing today in the mountains of Rwanda. Directed by Oscar winner James Reed (My Octopus Teacher) and produced by the Emmy-winning, veteran nature documentarian Alastair Fothergill (Life on Our Planet) and Silverback Films, A Gorilla Story is a tale of hope and joy.
