Chet Hanks Shared He Recently Took A Detour To See A Friend
Chester “Chet” Hanks is the son of actor Tom Hanks and actress Rita Wilson. The couple also shares another son, Truman. Tom also has two children, Colin and Elizabeth, from his marriage to Samantha Lewes.
Chet is known for his work as a musician and actor. He has appeared on shows including Atlanta, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Empire, Shameless, and Your Honor. In 2024, he also appeared on The Surreal Life.
Recently, Chet took to Instagram to share a surprising story with fans. He noted that he recently travelled to Puerto Rico for a birthday party, noting he had a “good time.” Chet then explained that he took a detour to Medellin to visit a friend named Taylor.
However, Chet then shared that things took a strange turn. He explained, “I’m traveling with my Greek passport because I’m a dual citizen.” At the time, he added that he didn’t want to use his American passport because it was about to expire. He then went to the airport to check in for his flight a few hours in advance.

Chet said that he was told, “This is an international flight. They tell me that if I’m using a foreign passport, I need a green card to get back into America.”
However, Chet noted that he doesn’t have a green card as an American. He explained, “I’m traveling with my Greek passport because I’m a dual citizen.” Again, as he had previously mentioned, his American passport was set to expire.
A Few Fans Also Tried To Give Chet Some Advice On What To Do
So, he’s at the airport early, and Chet shared that he was “literally stuck in Colombia. I’m stuck in Medellin.”
Trying to take the situation in stride, Chet acknowledged, “Granted, there’s worse places to be stuck, but I literally have no f****** idea what I’m gonna do, and the only embassy to get this s*** settled is in Bogota.”
The actor shared that he doesn’t “want to go to Bogota,” with it being around an hour away from Medellin by air. He then asked fans to “free me,” which had served as the post’s caption.
After Chet shared the story on social media, fans offered a few words of advice. Some simply suggested taking the situation with good humor. In fact, a few compared the situation to his father’s films, like Castaway and The Terminal, which also featured characters trapped away from home. A few comments included:
- “Better call someone in your family to have them FedEx your passport to you ASAP.”

- “The one time you should’ve pulled the ‘my dad is…’ card.”
