Tom Holland swings back into action, as the first look at Spider-Man: Brand New Day has finally arrived.
This morning, Holland revealed on Instagram that the first official trailer for the film will be released on Wednesday, but ahead of the full trailer, short clips offering a first look will be released on different fans’ social media pages throughout the day.
In the first fan-shared clip, we see Holland’s Spider-Man swinging between two buildings carrying someone under his arms, which fans were quick to point out was a recreation of Spider-Man’s comics debut on the cover of Amazing Fantasy #15. Both this clip, and many of the first-looks shared throughout the day hint to this film having a darker aesthetic than Holland’s first Spider-Man trilogy after we saw Peter Parker lose everything in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Brand New Day marks Holland’s first return as Spider-Man since 2021 and will be the first of his Spider-Man films not directed by Jon Watts. Instead, Spider-Man: Brand New Day sees Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton take the helm. When the film wrapped filming in December, Cretton published a letter on social media, thanking Holland for his “kind, generous leadership on and off screen, for your relentless work ethic, your fearless performances and for your friendship.”
He added, “I’m so deeply grateful for the people who walked with me through the biggest, most rewarding film I’ve ever been a part of. To our amazing cast, for breathing so much life into these beloved characters and moving us every day. To our unbelievable crew, who worked tirelessly with unmatched creativity and craftsmanship, who made me laugh so hard my stomach never stopped hurting. I love you all so much and can’t wait for the world to see your stunning work on the big screen.”
Brand New Day follows the hugely successful No Way Home, which grossed more than $1.9 billion at the global box office and brought together Holland’s spiderman with both Andrew Garfield and Toby Maguire‘s iterations for the first time. Now, we see Holland don a brand new suit for his fourth solo film and seventh appearance in the MCU.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into cinemas on the 31st July.
