Vice President JD Vance recently made headlines for his controversial appearance at the 2026 Winter Olympics. He wasn’t received warmly at the sporting event. A Top Chef star reacted to the Vice President with disgust for another shocking misstep. Keep reading for all the details.
Vice President’s Attendance At Olympics Faces Backlash
Hundreds of the world’s best athletes gathered in Italy last month to compete in the 2026 Winter Games. Vice President JD Vance attended the Opening Ceremony, as well as some of the events. He was reportedly booed loudly by the crowd.
The Games turned political after American athletes were asked about representing the US during a huge divide of ideologies and beliefs. Several athletes said they didn’t agree with certain things happening in their home country. The Vice President encouraged them not to add to the division.
JD Vance Opens Up About Surprising Cooking Skills
JD Vance and his wife, Usha, announced in January that they’re expecting another child. The Vice President and Second First Lady have three other children – sons Ewan and Vivek, and daughter Mirabel. They’re expecting another boy in July.
The couple recently sat down with Lara Trump for a Fox News interview. JD and Usha Vance looked back on the early days of their relationship. Lara Trump brought up the Second First Lady’s previous comments that JD Vance didn’t know how to cook until they met. She asked him to describe the best and worst dishes he’d made for Usha Vance.

“The worst is very easy. Usha’s a vegetarian, and I am not. So I’m thinking to myself, what does a vegetarian eat? Vegetables, dairy, and bread,” he recounted. JD Vance revealed that he made a crescent roll pizza, topped with vegetables and ranch dressing. “It was disgusting. Like, it was actually inedible,” he admitted.
Top Chef Star Reacts With Disgust
Usha Vance said that her husband is a much better cook now. “Most recently it’s been Shokupan, which is the Japanese milk bread…he’s been working on it for a while, and he does it really well,” she told Lara Trump.
However, Top Chef star Padma Lakshmi couldn’t get over the first meal, which she thought was disrespectful. Both Padma Lakshmi and Usha Vance are of Indian descent. The former Top Chef host was on The Daily Show last week to promote her new reality competition. America’s Culinary Cup features 16 chefs competing for a $1 million cash prize. It premieres on CBS on Wednesday, March 4, 2026.
“There are so many reasons to hate JD Vance, I didn’t think we needed a culinary one. He’s married an Indian woman, so she comes from this very deep, vast culinary tradition, you know, and he’s giving her, what was it, ranch dressing?” Padma Lakshmi said about the Vice President’s first meal for his wife. Tell us your thoughts on his ranch dressing mishap in the comments.
