Toronto-based indie developer Cococucumber has unveiled Echo Generation 2, a sequel to its acclaimed 2021 game Echo Generation.
Revealed during Thursday’s Xbox Partner Preview, Echo Generation 2 is a sci-fi turn-based RPG inspired by the mystery-filled stories of the ’80s and 90s. In the sequel, players control Jack, an unassuming dad who’s transported beyond the Canadian Maple Town to a new dimension, forcing him to have to find a way home.
Interestingly, the sequel overhauls the more traditional RPG turn-based combat of the original game into a deckbuilder with over 100 unique cards to obtain. All the while, Echo Generation sports the same colourful voxel aesthetic of the original game.

Echo Generation 2 is set to launch in 2026 on Xbox Series X/S, PC (Xbox on PC and Steam) and Xbox Game Pass.
Cococucumber’s last game, the Alice in Wonderland-inspired action-RPG Ravenlok, was released in 2023 to acclaim from critics and even Xbox president Sarah Bond. And earlier this year, the Canadian developer released Echo Generation: Midnight Edition, an updated version of the main game that adds improvements like fast travel, enhanced visuals, support for languages like French and Spanish.
To celebrate the sequel announcement, Midnight Edition is currently 65 per cent off on Xbox and 40 per cent off on Steam until November 25th. Those who already own the main game on Xbox get the new upgraded version for free.
