Negligent Myrka Cantu’s Son Suffers Skull Injury
Unexpected fans first met Myrka Cantu in Season 4 of the hit TLC reality series when she was a pregnant teenager. Along with her boyfriend, Ethan Ybarra, the Brownsville, Texas native was getting ready to welcome a baby girl, but Myrka’s mother had all but abandoned her. She and Ethan were trying to build a life together, but not long after their daughter, Attalie, was born, they split. They also did not return to the series and moved on. Myrka struggled in her personal life and met her partner, Juan.
They went on to have a daughter and then a son, but most recently found themselves expecting once again. This was a plot twist, but they appear to be very excited about the latest addition. Unfortunately, something extremely scary happened to their son, Alejandro, and it landed him in the hospital. Myrka took to social media to explain that he was sleeping in their bed when he fell and subsequently landed on his head. She then rushed him to the hospital, where he was transported to a children’s hospital. It was determined he had fractured his skull, and now, it is causing her many sleepless nights.
This was not something she would normally do. However, the Unexpected alum is a firm believer in doing what makes your life easier with your babies. Sadly, it ended badly, and now she is paying for it. Followers who heard what Myrka Cantu had to say were torn on the situation. Many did not feel she took proper safety measures, and that was the biggest issue. At the same time, they were thankful she was spreading awareness about the dangers of co-sleeping.
This Is A Big Issue
Co-sleeping is common among parents and newborns. They may grow so tired that they fall asleep while nursing or rocking them, and it can end in disaster. Myrka Cantu’s story made the dangers clear, but some did express how it could be done safely. After fans and viewers saw what the former Unexpected star shared about her son fracturing his skull, they chimed in with this:
- Yall the safe sleep 7s exist and are absolutely a safe way to co sleep. Not to mention co sleepers exist. It’s when people like this don’t follow the 7s that these accidents happen.

- It makes no sense when a person could just put a bassinet right there next to their bed. They don’t have to be in another room or even across the room!
There was some debate about co-sleeping, even though it is popular in other countries. Followers shared sad and tragic stories about babies passing due to incidents while in their parents’ bed. The hope was that Myrka Cantu would get help so that she would be able to handle her babies better. Moreover, she would recover from this trauma with her son.
