Diddy was a mentor to many up-and-coming musicians for decades. But the disgraced producer was arrested in 2024 on charges of sex trafficking and other sick crimes. Usher is facing backlash after seeming to downplay Diddy’s sick crimes and praising him for his “legacy.” Keep reading for more details on the shocking comments.
Usher Praises Diddy’s ‘Legacy’
Diddy was more than just a mentor to Usher. He was also a frequent collaborator. The two teamed up for several songs over their decades-long partnership. But a different side of Diddy became public knowledge in 2024 when a video from 2016 showed him physically abusing his then-girlfriend, singer Cassie.
She sued him in 2023, alleging years of physical abuse. However, her claims weren’t taken seriously until the video was leaked. She was the star witness at the rapper’s trial. Cassie detailed not only physical abuse, but she claimed she was forced to have sex with other men for money.
He was later acquitted of the sex trafficking and racketeering charges but was convicted on transportation for the purpose of prostitution. He was sentenced to 50 months in prison. His latest release date is in 2028, unless President Trump pardons him before that.
The trial exposed disturbing allegations against Diddy. Many artists who worked with him have since distanced themselves from him. Except for Usher.

In an interview with Forbes, Usher shared his controversial take that Diddy was “misrepresented” during the trial. When asked the one word that came to mind about Diddy, Usher came up with “legacy.”
“I don’t have anything negative to say about Sean Combs because my experience was not what the world has seen and how he’s been misrepresented,” Usher said about his mentor.
Fans Outraged, Accuse Him Of Ignoring Diddy’s Sick Crimes
Usher’s praise for Diddy immediately went viral. Some social media users said that maybe Usher’s support of Diddy was the reason behind his tense exchange with Justin Bieber earlier this month.
Usher was blasted all over social media for ignoring Diddy’s sick crimes while praising his legacy. Check out what people are saying:
- “That’s a weird thing to say.”
- “Is there some benefit to defending P. Diddy? Like everyone pretty much knows he’s guilty and hates him yet this dummy is gonna throw away any credibility by supporting him”
- “Usher may be able to read music, but not the room.”
- “We need to stop normalizing people who terrible things getting passes.”
- “So Usher is cool with him beating Cassie on camera which we allllll saw.”
- “All this dude had to do was nothing, and he would have been fine.”
- “He probably has a bunch of charges about to be announced himself.”
Usher admitted during the interview that he knew his opinion was controversial. But he probably didn’t expect as much backlash as he’s getting.
