Chile… we’ve seen a lot of “glow-ups” on Instagram, but this one crossed into federal territory. Mary Ann Magdamit, a former California postal worker, has officially learned the hard way that flexing fraud money online comes with a federal price tag.

Magdamit Exposed After Going From Mailroom To Millions

Mary Ann Magdamit, a former U.S. Postal Service letter carrier in Southern California, was sentenced to five years and three months in federal prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit bank fraud. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, her crimes stretched from at least 2022 through July 2025, during which she stole debit and credit cards, as well as checks, from the mail while working at the Torrance Main Post Office.

All we can say is…the scheme was reportedly elaborate. Officials say Magdamit activated stolen cards online, used them for personal purchases, and even sold some to accomplices. She also orchestrated stolen checks to be cashed, often with counterfeit ID documents, and allegedly funneled her earnings into luxury goods and international trips to places like Turks and Caicos and Aruba. And yes… her Instagram told the story too — she posted pictures holding stacks of $100 bills, living the life while breaking the law.

Stolen Cards, Ghost Gun, And Rolex Seized

Things escalated further after a December 2024 search of her apartment turned up 133 stolen credit and debit cards, 16 U.S. Department of Treasury checks, and a loaded, unserialized Glock-clone “ghost gun” with a 27-round magazine. When agents returned on July 1, 2025, they found she was still making purchases with victims’ cards, leading to her immediate arrest. U.S. District Judge John F. Walter also ordered Magdamit to pay $660,200 in restitution and forfeit luxury items, including a Rolex.

These Postal Workers Really Need To Chill

Ain’t no way these postal workers out here snatching up mail and identities like it’s a side hustle. As previously reported, James Lancaster, a former New Augusta, Indianapolis, U.S. postal worker allegedly started stealing checks from the mail back in 2021, with court records showing over 272 mailed checks taken — totaling a whopping $1.7 million from 59 different businesses, including hospitals, car dealerships, charities, utility companies, and even a cancer research center. Business owners are still feeling the fallout; Robb Fine, whose company lost $21,000 in the scheme, said it took weeks just to fix the mess and months dealing with the bank.

Lancaster eventually pleaded guilty to mail theft and conspiracy to commit bank fraud, while investigators uncovered two co-conspirators who reportedly manipulated the stolen checks and sold them online for profit. Jordan McPhearson of Illinois pleaded guilty last year and was sentenced to 42 months in federal prison, while Lavaris Yarbrough is set to be sentenced this September. The whole thing has people shaking their heads — like, how many postal workers are really out here treating other people’s mail as their personal ATM? And with checks coming from places handling life-saving work and charitable donations, this isn’t just theft — it’s straight-up reckless.
