A pre-Ranji Trophy warm-up match between Maharashtra and Mumbai unexpectedly boiled over recently, as former Mumbai star Prithvi Shaw was involved in a furious on-field altercation. The incident, which saw Shaw allegedly try to strike Mumbai’s Musheer Khan with his bat, has sent shockwaves through the cricketing fraternity, raising questions about player conduct and sportsmanship.
Prithvi Shaw’s gritty innings and a fiery dismissal
The stage was set for an intense encounter as Shaw, representing Maharashtra, faced off against his former Mumbai teammates. Shaw, known for his aggressive batting style, was in fine form, having crafted a masterful 181 runs. His innings was a testament to his talent, but it was also charged with an underlying tension as he played against the very side he had once captained.
The dismissal came at the hands of young Musheer, brother of Indian Test star Sarfaraz Khan. As Musheer successfully snared Shaw’s wicket, he reportedly delivered a vocal send-off, a common yet often provocative gesture in competitive cricket. It was this send-off that seemed to ignite the fuse.

Incensed by Musheer’s send-off, Shaw, still holding his bat, allegedly turned back towards the youngster. In the video, Shaw can be spotted swinging his bat in a wild manner, attempting to strike Musheer.
The situation quickly spiraled out of control. Umpires, recognizing the gravity of the incident, swiftly intervened to separate the two players. Teammates from both sides also rushed in to de-escalate the confrontation, preventing what could have been a far more serious physical altercation.
The drama wasn’t confined to the immediate aftermath of the alleged bat incident. As Shaw made his way back to the pavilion, his anger apparently had not subsided. He was engaged in another heated exchange, this time with Siddhesh Lad, another former Mumbai teammate.
