Harshit Rana, bowling a back-of-length delivery outside off stump, forced Carey into an aerial slice toward the backward point region. Iyer, fielding at backward point, reacted in an instant – turning and sprinting nearly 20 meters before launching into a full-stretch dive just outside the 30-yard circle. With remarkable timing, he managed to pouch the ball inches above the ground, completing one of the most memorable catches of the series.
The Sydney crowd rose to its feet as Iyer completed the catch while falling on the ground. Carey’s dismissal for 24 off 37 balls proved crucial, as it broke a developing partnership with Matt Renshaw, who was anchoring Australia’s middle order.

However, the brilliance came at a painful cost. Upon completing the catch, Iyer landed awkwardly on his left side, with his elbow striking his ribcage and his hip taking the brunt of the fall. During the subsequent drinks break, Iyer was helped off the field, clutching his left hip and stomach area. Fox Sports later reported that the injury appeared to be centered around his left hip and abdominal region, though at the time of writing, the BCCI didn’t issue any update regarding his condition or availability to bat in India’s innings.
