The NFL veteran was married to Fabiana Pimentel Owens for two decades. She is reportedly quite a few years younger than he is.
According to PEOPLE magazine, his ex-wife is from Brazil but has been living in the United States for more than twenty years. The outlet revealed that Fabiana Pimentel Owens has a Bachelor’s degree in business from a college in Brazil. She reportedly also holds a Master’s in marketing from UCLA.
Her current job is the “direction of experiences” with the Preferred Hotels & Resorts company.
She filed for divorce from Mel Owens in 2020. He said in the Golden Bachelor intro package that she met someone new and left him. The former couple battled it out in court for four years before the divorce was finally finalized in 2024. He reportedly paid her nearly $1 million in the settlement, including back child support.

His other son is a senior in high school and already committed to play baseball at Oklahoma State University.
Mel Owens was a linebacker for the Los Angeles Rams for nine seasons. He retired due to an injury and went on to earn his law degree. He’s spent the last two decades specializing in sports law, particularly workers’ compensation and disability benefits. He went to war with the NFL in a civil lawsuit over alleged drug use.
