Today marks the 30th anniversary of the Pokémon series, and to celebrate, The Pokémon Company held a special stream featuring new games and other announcements.
The highlight of the Pokémon Presents presentation was the unveiling of the long-running series’ tenth generation games, Winds and Waves. In a trailer for the flagship titles, we see a Hawaii-esque tropical island, with a special version of Pikachu wearing vacation-style clothing. The three starter Pokémon were also revealed: Pombon (Fire), Gecqua (Water) and Browt (Grass). Finally, a 2027 launch window on Switch 2 was confirmed.
Elsewhere in the stream, it was confirmed that Pokémon Champions will launch on Switch in April, followed by a mobile release later this year. It’s a strategy battler in the vein of the Pokémon Stadium games that emphasizes multiplayer.
Other Pokémon Presents announcements include news that GameCube classic Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness will come to Switch Online in March, the Pokémon Game Music Collection that features Red and Blue music in a replica of the Game Boy (available today), various updates for Pokémon Go and more.
The stream also included confirmation that the just-launched Switch ports of Fire Red and Leaf Green will support the digital service Pokémon Home, allowing you to share your monsters between these games and the likes of Champions, Scarlet, Violet and Legends Z-A.
All in all, the Pokémon Presents ran for about 25 minutes. You can check out the full presentation on YouTube.
