Based on the latest news making the rounds, a woman from Wisconsin was recently charged with murdering her mother, and this case has more than its share of gruesome details.
Police Often Look To Family Members As Suspects When Crimes Occur
Whenever a crime occurs anywhere, one of the first things that police rule out is whether or not any family members were involved. As programs like Forensic Files and others teach us, it’s often those closest to us who end up committing the worst crimes.
Whether it’s adult children who want to cash in on the life insurance policies of their parents (or something else), police have to determine whether the suspect or suspects are someone that a victim knows, and that often starts with ruling out family and friends as potential perpetrators.
As one recent case in Milwaukee shows us, a woman is behind bars, and she is accused of killing her own mother in a particularly violent incident. So, what happened with this situation, and what do we know so far about everything that went down?
Wisconsin Woman Murders Mother In Gruesome Fashion, What Happened?
According to Too Fab, “Lauren Spors, 29, has been charged with one count each of first-degree intentional homicide and domestic abuse – threat, according to the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office, for the October 12 incident that saw police respond to a 911 call for violence that turned deadly.”
Carrie Zettel, 64, made the call to police at 2:06 pm. By the time officers arrived on the scene by 2:20 pm, “they found Zettel lying in the back yard under a blanket with ‘severe trauma to her head with brain matter visible,’ per a search warrant reviewed by CBS affiliate WDJT. She would be pronounced dead just minutes later.”
Investigators also made note of a “four-pound rock covered in blood next to the victim’s body” at the residence. According to a neighbor, they told police that they saw Lauren Spors standing over her mother and “beating her repeatedly with a large object she was holding in both hands.”
In a previous incident, Lauren Spors struck her father in the head with “decorative bottles.” The father eventually died, but, in a letter to a judge, Lauren Spors said that she didn’t remember the violent incident. Spors has a history of violent incidents and mental illness. As it relates to this recent death of her mother, Spors has bail set at $100k, and she faces life in prison if she is found guilty.
