Actor Eric Braeden recently had to step away from his work on The Young and the Restless. However, he has since gotten back to work on the soap. Since then, he has opened up about the situation, revealing he also had to deal with a strong illness.
Eric Braeden Has Been Part Of The Young & The Restless Since 1980
As an actor, Braeden is best known for his work with The Young and the Restless. In 1980, he took on the role of business magnate Victor Newman.
Initially, the character was only intended to last for a few weeks. However, his character’s popularity had kept him as part of the soap for the ensuing decades.
Recently, the actor dealt with an illness that sidelined him earlier this month. Explaining the situation in a video on Facebook, he shared, “I had pneumonia for about two weeks.”
According to Eric, he wasn’t the only member of his family to get sick. His son, film director Christian Gudegast, and one of his granddaughters also got sick.
Braeden Also Had A Few Words For Some Of His Co-Stars
However, Eric got the brunt of it due to his age. As he explained, “Because of my age, [I] had it a bit worse than others. But I’m over it now.”
Braeden thanked modern medicine and antibiotics for his recovery. He shared, “How nice it is to come out of that kind of sickness. Pneumonia is no walk in the park. In fact, you can’t walk. That’s the point. It hits you like a ton of bricks.” He also shared that he could resume exercising, but noted that he had to be “careful,” once again considering his age.

Since his relatively quick recovery, Braeden could also resume his work on The Young and the Restless. Noting the time that he had to step away from the soap, he continued, “I had to make up for not being there for two weeks. So, the last two or three weeks were a lot of work, a lot of days of double duty. But we survived it. I loved being back to work.”
Braeden also expressed his gratitude at getting to work with his co-stars again. “Love being back with my colleagues. It was nice to see Melody [Thomas Scott] and Joshua [Morrow] and Mark [Grossman] and Amelia [Heinle] and… everyone, really. Michelle Stafford. What a privilege to be able to go to work. It really is.”
Currently on the soap, Victor is facing his wife Nikki’s wrath, who is upset that he arranged for Jack to be abducted. Braeden noted that things are getting intense for the couple. He shared, “Right now, I have some difficult scenes with Melody, who plays my wife.” However, he assured that the hug each other once filming ends, noting he dislikes screaming at her.
