Melissa Claire Egan is known for her work with soaps, particularly on The Young and the Restless. Recently, she took to social media to share a health update with fans. During the share, the actress also highlighted the importance of sharing her story.
Melissa Claire Egan Joined The Young and the Restless In 2011
As an actress, Egan is best known for her work in soaps. In 2006, she made her debut on All My Children as Annie Novak Chandler. She previously appeared on the soap at the age of 12 as an extra.
In 2011, it was announced that Egan would join The Young and the Restless, playing Chelsea Lawson. At the time, the character was advertised as a mystery woman connected to Billy Abbott. Since then, she has appeared on and off in the role.
Recently, Egan took to social media to share an emotional health update. As she wrote, “I wanted to share that in late January I was diagnosed with coronary heart disease.”
The actress reassured fans that she would be “okay” thanks to an “early detection.” She continued, noting that, despite normally being a “private person,” she felt that this story was too important not to share, “especially for women.”
The actress noted that her doctor, Dr. Thaïs Aliabadi of Los Angeles, sent her to a cardiologist, Mo Ghalichi, M.D., after showing concern about her recent blood work results. Plaque was then found in her LAD artery, which could have caused a fatal heart attack within the next five to ten years.
Soap Stars Have Praised Egan For Her Recent Share
Reflecting on what happened, Egan shared:
- Later that night, after, I was diagnosed, I laid with my sons, putting them to bed, feeling so grateful to God and my doctors that I found this early. But I couldn’t stop thinking about all the other women (and men) that might have this disease and not know it. It is under-tested and under-recognized.
Egan then stressed to fans that it was important to remember their heart health and ask to be evaluated for coronary heart disease risk. She particularly specified tests for Lipoprotein(a) and ApoB levels, as well as a “Heart Calcium scan.”

The soap star concluded her post by sharing, “I’m grateful to work with them sharing my story. Let’s all band together, focus on our heart health, and live longer!!!”
Since Egan’s post, other soap alumni have also expressed their reactions to the post in the comments. Actress Lauralee Bell, known for playing Christine Blair on The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful, for example, praised Egan for the share, writing, “Thank God you and your incredible doctor caught this early,” also emphasizing, “The calcium test gives so much helpful insight!!!” Nancy Lee Grahn, who is known for playing Alexis Davis on General Hospital, wrote, “You’re a rock star for this. Proud to be your friend.”
