    16 Canadians to switch teams in CFL Free Agency in 2026

    16 Canadians to switch teams in CFL Free Agency in 2026

    The Canadian Football League regular season is less than two months away. Here are the 16 Canadians in free agency so far that have switched teams.

    A.J. Allen

    The linebacker from Burlington, Ontario is going from the Saskatchewan Roughriders to the Ottawa Redblacks. Allen has played the last four seasons with the Roughriders and won a Grey Cup in 2025. This past season Allen had 87 defensive tackles, four special teams tackles, four sacks, three interceptions and three forced fumbles. Allen played his university football at Guelph.

    Dejon Brissett 

    The wide receiver from Mississauga, Ontario is going from the Toronto Argonauts to the Calgary Stampeders. Brissett has played the last five seasons with the Argonauts, and won two Grey Cups with the Argonauts in 2022 and 2024. In 2024, Brissett was the Canadian MVP of the Grey Cup. In 2025, Brissett had 65 catches for 907 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

    Michael Brodrique

    The linebacker from Sainte-Marthe-sur-le-lac, Quebec is going from the Edmonton Elks to Redblacks. Brodrique has played the last three seasons with the Elks. In 2025, he had one special team tackle. Brodrique played his university football at Montreal.

    Charbel Dabire

    The defensive lineman from Toronto, Ontario is going from the Saskatchewan Roughriders to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Dabire played five seasons with the Roughriders from 2019 to 2024.

    Kurleigh Gittens Jr. 

    The wide receiver from Ottawa, Ontario is going from the Elks to the Tiger-Cats. He played four seasons with the Argonauts from 2019 to 2023, and the last two seasons with the Elks. In 2022 with the Argonauts, Gittens Jr. was a CFL All-Star, Grey Cup champion, and won the Lew Hayman Trophy as the most outstanding Canadian in the East Division. In 2025, Gittens Jr. had 62 catches for 777 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Gittens Jr. played his university football at Wilfrid Laurier.

    Scott Hutter

    The defensive back from London, Ontario is going from the Montreal Alouettes to the Redblacks. Hutter is joining his third CFL team after five seasons with Edmonton (2019 to 2024), and one season with the Alouettes (2025). This past season in Montreal, Hutter had seven special teams tackles and one defensive tackle. Hutter played his university football at Wilfrid Laurier.

    Chris Kolankowski

    The offensive lineman from Etobicoke, Ontario is going from the Winnipeg Blue Bombers to the Tiger-Cats. Kolankowski is joining his third CFL team after two seasons with the Argonauts (2017 and 2018), and five seasons with the Blue Bombers (2021 to 2025). He won a Grey Cup with the Argonauts in 2017 and a Grey Cup with the Blue Bombers in 2021. Kolankowski played his university football at York.

    Jonathan Kongbo

    The defensive end from Surrey, British Columbia is going from the Elks to the Argonauts. Kongbo is joining his fourth CFL team after playing two seasons with the Argonauts (2019 and 2021), one season with the Tiger-Cats (2023) and one season with the Elks (2025). Kongbo had six defensive tackles and four sacks with the Elks in 2025. He also played three games with the Denver Broncos in 2022 and had one solo tackle which came in a 21-17 Broncos win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on October 30, 2022.

    Gregor MacKellar 

    The offensive lineman from Timberlea, Nova Scotia is going from the Elks to the Redblacks. He is joining his third CFL team. MacKellar played three seasons with the Argonauts from 2022 to 2024, and one season with the Elks in 2025. A two-time Grey Cup champion with the Argonauts in 2022 and 2024, MacKellar played university football at St. Francis Xavier.

    Enock Makonzo

    The linebacker from Lachine, Quebec is going from the Blue Bombers to the Argonauts. Makonzo played two seasons for the Elks in 2022 and 2023.

    Tyson Middlemost  

    The wide receiver from Dundas, Ontario is going from the Elks to the Tiger-Cats. Middlemost is joining his third CFL team. He played four seasons with the Stampeders from 2021 to 2024, and one season with the Elks in 2025. This past season in Edmonton, the McMaster University product had five catches for 34 yards.

    Tommy Nield 

    The wide receiver from Guelph, Ontario is going from the Roughriders to the Blue Bombers. Nield is joining his third CFL team. He played four seasons with the Argonauts from 2021 to 2024 and one season with the Roughriders in 2025. This past season the McMaster University product had 42 catches for 535 receiving yards and five touchdowns for Saskatchewan. Nield is a three-time Grey Cup champion as he won with Toronto in 2022 and 2024, and with Saskatchewan in 2025.

    Braydon Noll 

    The offensive lineman from Orangeville, Ontario is going from the Roughriders to the Alouettes. Noll, a product of Wilfrid Laurier University, is joining his third CFL team after two seasons with the Argonauts (2022 and 2023) and two seasons with the Roughriders (2024 to 2025). He won a Grey Cup with the Argonauts in 2022 and Roughriders in 2025.

    Brendan O’Leary-Orange

    The wide receiver from Toronto is going from the Tiger-Cats to the Elks. O’Leary-Orange is joining his third CFL team after three seasons with the Blue Bombers (2021 to 2023) and the last two seasons with the Tiger-Cats (2024 to 2025). In 2025 with Hamilton, O’Leary-Orange had 22 catches for 336 receiving yards and four touchdowns. He won a Grey Cup with the Blue Bombers in 2021.

    Kene Onyeka

    The defensive lineman from Brampton is going from the Redblacks to the Tiger-Cats. Onyeka is joining his second CFL team after six seasons with the Redblacks (2019 to 2025). The Carleton University product had 11 special teams tackles and one defensive tackle in 2025.

    Coulter Woodmansey 

    The offensive lineman from Toronto is going from the Tiger-Cats to the Elks. Woodmansey is joining his second CFL team after five seasons with the Tiger-Cats. He played his university career at Guelph.
