Viewers have seen CBS News go through various changes over the past few months, with a number of figures leaving 60 Minutes. Since then, fans have been wondering about who is staying on the program and who is leaving. Recently, a certain action from journalist Lesley Stahl has fans thinking that they might already know her immediate future with the show. A few inside sources have also weighed in on the story. However, fans would later see Stahl announce her big decision.
Lesley Stahl Has Reported For 60 Minutes Since 1991
Stahl is a broadcast journalist who has spent most of her career with CBS News. Starting as a producer i 1971, she has been a reporter for 60 Minutes since 1991.
Notably, viewers have seen a number of shakeups at CBS News over the past few months. In the past two weeks alone, there have been multiple firings at 60 Minutes, such as Scott Pelley, Tanya Simon, Cecilia Vega, and Sharyn Alfonsi. Thanks to this, people have been wondering about Stahl’s place on the show, especially as her contract has expired.
According to The New York Post, despite this, Stahl appears to have decided to stick with the program in spite of the behind-the-scenes drama. Reportedly, she was said to already be out shooting footage for the show’s next season.
A source also recently weighed in on the story with the outlet. As they shared, “Lesley was shooting a segment for next season. She must be staying at the company.”
A Source Claimed That There Are Three Figures That CBS News Wants To Keep Close
The source continued, noting that Stahl had been working with senior producer Guy Campanile, who was previously let go due to editor-in-chief Bari Weiss’ recent overhaul. After Campanile’s departure, she reportedly tapped another producer to work on the story. Another source added, “Lesley Stahl didn’t even wait for the bodies of Tanya Simon and Draggan Mihailovich to get cold before she went out shooting.”
Sources also claimed that Stahel was not at a recent meet-and-greet with new boss Nick Bilton. This event previously made headlines as it was reportedly where Scott Pelley’s comments about fired colleagues may have led to his own termination.

Stahl Later Released A Joint Statement Alongside Bill Whitaker & Jon Wertheim
A source reportedly claimed that CBS News execs have expressed that they would like Stahl to stay with the program. Reportedly, these sentiments were also extended to Bill Whitaker and Jon Wertheim.
However, this still leaves the question of whether or not they would like to stay on their own. They reportedly believe Stahl will stay on, as “60 Minutes is like oxygen to her,” at least according to one source.
According to CNN Business, in a later statement, Stahl confirmed that she would be staying with the show alongside Bill Whitaker and Jon Wertheim. In a joint statement, they shared, “If we can continue doing the work that made this show what it is — committing acts of independent, fearless journalism and storytelling — we’re here for it. If not, we leave.” They also expressed, “We don’t want to see ‘60 Minutes’ die.”
