Sony has just released the first trailer for the latest installment in the horror series Insidious by director Jacob Chase, who directs who shares story and writing credits with David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick.
The sixth installment in the franchise is titled Insidious: Out of the Further and stars Amelia Eve, Brandon Perea and Maisie Richardson-Sellers.
Lin Shaye returns from the previous films as Elise Rainier.
“When young single mother Gemma discovers she can travel into The Further and also bring what lives there back to the real world, she becomes targeted by evil spirits and demons who plan to use her powers,” reads the official premise.
Acclaimed horror creators James Waan and Leigh Whannell, loved for the Saw franchise, share production credits with Jason Blum and Oren Peli.
The Insidious franchise began over a decade ago with Wan’s first film in 2010, which was followed by a sequel, Chapter 2, three years later. Whannell then took over as director for Chapter 3 in 2015, followed by Adam Robitel for Insidious: The Last Key in 2018. The last film was Insidious: The Red Door, which was released in 2023 as Patrick Wilson’s directorial debut. Wilson also stars in the first two films as Josh Lambert, who fights for his son’s life against a possessive demon.
The franchise has grossed a worldwide total of $731 million against a combined budget of $42.5 million, making it the 14th highest-grossing horror film franchise.
Insidious: Out of the Further hits cinemas on August 21st.
