Microsoft is ending service for its Outlook Lite email app and removing it from the Google Play Store, with its sole focus on the full Outlook app.
After four years and a loyal user base, Microsoft says it is shutting down its lightweight, low-storage-cost email app on May 25, 2026, leaving users with the option to upgrade or switch.
The initial announcement came on September 6, 2025, when Microsoft said it would be preventing new installs in early October. This comes as a hit to users who initially downloaded the app for its small storage size, simple interface and minimal additional features, which added to its on-the-go appeal.
Even though the app will still launch, the inbox, app navigation and functionality will not work. While the app will no longer retain full functionality, account data, including emails, calendar events and the email account itself, will not be affected. There will be an option in the app to upgrade to the full Outlook app.
