Last year, Google told the world that it had been working with companies like Warby Parker and Gentle Monster on smart glasses; however, now we’re learning about Gucci-branded Android XR glasses.
According to Reuters, Gucci-branded smart glasses are coming next year. Not much else is known about the upcoming smart glasses, such as whether they’ll have audio-only features or if they’ll have displays.
Google announced the Android XR platform last year and said it would be working with the above glasses companies, as well as Samsung, on launches for 2026. So Reuters is probably right, and we won’t see the Gucci-branded glasses this year.
I’ve used Samsung’s Galaxy XR, which uses the Android XR platform, and prototype glasses that featured Android XR as well, and I found both experiences pretty good, with Android XR being a very friendly platform. Gucci-branded smart glasses would be pretty cool, but might cost a bit more than some of the alternatives.
Meta has partnered with EssilorLuxottica brands Ray-Ban and Oakley, and Lucyd works with Reebok, so we’ll definitely start seeing more fashion brands working with tech partners on smartglasses.
