Ken Jennings hasn’t been hosting Jeopardy! for long but fans already think about his replacement. The former contestant shared his thoughts on who could take over and how much longer he’ll be on the show. Plus, he finally answers a question that has been haunting fans for two decades. Keep reading for all the details.

Ken Jennings Reveals If Time On Show Is Over

Not even cancer could stop Alex Trebek from hosting one of America’s favorite game shows. He continued showing up to Jeopardy! even after a Stage 4 pancreatic cancer diagnosis. The longtime host filmed throughout treatment. He passed away in November 2020, a little over a year after he was diagnosed.

Replacing Alex Trebek was difficult. The game show initially brought in two hosts – former champion Ken Jennings and Big Bang Theory actress Mayim Bialik, who also holds a PhD in neuroscience. However, Ken Jennings eventually became the sole host.

He often fields questions from the audience before Jeopardy! tapings. Sarah Whitcomb-Foss and Michael Daives discussed a recent Q&A on the Inside Jeopardy! podcast. One audience member wanted to know if Ken Jennings had a replacement in mind.

The Jeopardy! host revealed that Alex Trebek would choose a random person anytime he was asked the same question. So, Ken Jennings took a page from his mentor. “You know, I haven’t really thought about it. I’m in good health. I do my stretches every game, but clearly Bad Bunny,” he joked.

Ken Jennings, 51, will host the show through at least 2028. The popular game show was renewed for 5 more years in 2023. It was announced this week that Pop Culture Jeopardy! has been renewed for Season 2, with Colin Jost returning as host.

Did He End Jeopardy! Streak On Purpose?

Ken Jennings holds multiple records for his stint on Jeopardy! The records have remained in place for over two decades, though one recent contestant is fighting hard to break them. Ken Jennings’ winning streak had fans of the show glued to the couch. His streak of 74 games came to a shocking end over a somewhat easy question.

“Most of this firm’s 70,000 seasonal white-collar employees work for 4 months of the year,” the Final Jeopardy clue in the Business & Industry category read. Ken Jennings answered “FedEx.” That was the wrong answer. The correct answer was “H&R Block.” His streak was over.

Some viewers have theorized for the last 22 years that Ken Jennings lost on purpose to end the streak. He addressed an audience member who asked him before a recent show. “I think people who ask me this question usually just want to say they knew it was H&R Block,” he joked. Ken Jennings assured fans that he didn’t give the wrong answer on purpose.

“I think I could have thought about that one all day, and I would not have figured out that was H&R Block,” he said about the Jeopardy! question that stumped him. Ken Jennings hasn’t really thought of who might replace him someday. Tell us in the comments who you would choose.
