Wilson is a country music singer who started her career in 2004. She then released her first album in 2014 after the Louisiana native ventured to Nashville.
In 2022, Wilson eventually made her television debut on Yellowstone. Debuting in the fifth season, she portrayed Abby, an aspiring country music artist.
Wilson has had a career that many would aspire toward. However, she has opened up about her own struggles dealing with anxiety and depression. The star recently opened up about this in her new Netflix documentary, Lainey Wilson: Keepin’ Country Cool, which premieres on April 22.
In the documentary, Wilson shared, “A couple of years ago was wild. Everything I’d ever dreamed about kinda happened all at once. You know, when opportunities come at you, and you didn’t have any for so long, you wanna just take ’em all. And I guess a little bit of that was probably fear that they weren’t always gonna be there.”
Wilson Shared That She Had Asked Reba McEntire A ‘Loaded’ Question
As Wilson went on, she shared that there were years when she did not feel like herself. She also admitted that even she was surprised that she was dealing with depression when many good things were happening in her life. As she went on, she admitted to panic attacks and breakdowns.
As noted by Entertainment Weekly, Wilson then shared that she decided to ask for advice from one of her own personal heroes, Reba McEntire. The two had notably released a single, “Trailblazer,” with Miranda Lambert in May 2025.

Recalling what she asked McEntire, Wilson shared, “I said, ‘This is a loaded question, but what do you do when you feel like you can’t go any further?’ And she said, ‘I do it for somebody else.’”
McEntire’s simple response had an impact on Wilson. As she shared, “That right there has put so much in perspective for me. I get on that stage and I do it for other people.”
From small town Louisiana roots to the top of the country music charts, Lainey Wilson opens up about the grind, glory, and grit that shaped her rise to fame.
