– The network will present case studies on the releases of Park Chan-wook’s No Other Choice and Chie Hayakawa’s Renoir, as well as the re-release of Edward Yang’s Yi Yi
From Sunday 26 to Wednesday 29 April, Europa Distribution (ED) will hold its fourth workshop in the scope of Focus Asia in Udine. Around 15 independent distributors will attend a panel organised by Europa Distribution in collaboration with Focus Asia and Ties That Bind. The members of the international network of independent film publishers and distributors will also have the opportunity to take part in the numerous activities organised by Focus Asia, such as screenings and networking events.
On Tuesday 28 April, distributors and many other industry professionals will attend ED’s public panel on Asian releases. This year’s case studies for the panel are No Other Choice (2025) by Park Chan-wook, the re-release of Yi Yi (2000) by Edward Yang and Renoir (2025) by Chie Hayakawa. Stephan Holl, co-founder of Rapid Eye Movies, Germany, will moderate the conversation between this year’s speakers, members of the association: Sarah Kruková (Aerofilms, Czech Republic); Monica Felea (Bad Unicorn, Romania); Vincent Quek (Anticipate Pictures, Singapore). The 60-minute panel will offer a comparative analysis of their release strategies, covering key areas such as acquisition, marketing, press engagement, release planning, and audience reach, both theatrically and online. The distributors will also discuss how they tailored their approaches to fit the specific needs of their regions.
Europa Distribution will continue to organise many more events in 2026. In August, the focus will be on Nordic films, with a panel organised during New Nordic Films in Haugesund. Then, Europa Distribution will gather again in September in Venice, for a workshop centred on the collaboration between distributors and producers, and later that month at a workshop at the San Sebastián International Film Festival.
