Craig Melvin co-hosts several hours of the Today Show. His job on the morning program’s third hour is likely secure after Sheinelle Jones moved to the fourth hour. However, there has been constant speculation about his role as Savannah Guthrie’s co-host. The anchor trained his possible replacement live on the air during a special episode this week. Keep reading for all the details.
Craig Melvin In Danger Of Losing Job?
Craig Melvin got the promotion of a lifetime in 2025 when Hoda Kotb stepped down as co-host of the Today Show. He took over as Savannah Guthrie’s co-anchor on the program’s first two hours. He also co-hosts the show’s third hour. The morning host was praised recently for his quick thinking to save a guest from an embarrassing wardrobe malfunction.
The longtime anchor held down the fort while Savannah Guthrie took time away from the show in February amid her mother’s strange disappearance. Savannah Guthrie returned in April, and Craig Melvin took a much-needed vacation after her return. However, Hoda Kotb also filled in for Savannah Guthrie, sparking speculation she could return full-time.
Just when Craig Melvin thought his job was safe, he trained his possible replacement live on the air.
Today Anchor Trains Possible Replacement Live On-Air
The Today Show marked a special day in April this week. Every year, parents bring their kids to work on Take Our Sons and Daughters to Work Day. The event was initially branded Take Our Daughters to Work, but added sons in 2023 to be more inclusive.
Craig Melvin has some serious competition for his anchoring job. His 12-year-old son, Delano, immediately bonded with the rest of the anchors and kept viewers engaged. Craig Melvin shares two children with his wife, Lindsay Czarniak.

Delano made a grand entrance during the show’s third hour when a production staffer pushed him to the anchor desk in a chair. As anyone would do, he started swiveling in the chair. His dad stopped him and reminded him to look at the cameras. But Al Roker joked, “He’s just doing what you do.”

Later in the segment, it was Delano’s time to shine by announcing the winner of a pet naming contest. The tween fumbled a little when reading the winner off the TelePrompter. The winning name was ‘Cheddar Big Booty Cheeseburger,’ causing Al Roker to quip, “That’s what we call your dad!”
The joke sent Delano into a fit of laughter, but his dad lightly scolded him not to encourage “Mr. Roker.” Before he left, Craig Melvin’s son pretended to introduce the next segment about getting your dad to raise your allowance. Craig Melvin said that wasn’t going to happen.
Delano Melvin did a great job as co-anchor. Craig Melvin’s job is safe for now, but the youngster has a bright future ahead of him. Tell us your reaction to the hilarious audition in the comments.
