The Last of Us’s Bella Ramsey stars in the recently dropped trailer for Sunny Dancer, a hopeful and uplifting British comedy by writer and director George Jaques. The film has been described as a “deeply personal and profanely funny romantic comedy-drama for young adults about wanting to fit in when the world has had other plans for you.“
Sunny Dancer focuses on Ramsey’s Ivy, a teenager who has recently taken on cancer and conquered it, leading her parents to sign her up for a summer at a chemo camp to bond with kids who have walked the same path.
Despite some initial concerns and disapproval, Ivy finds herself locked in a new chosen family of lovable misfits eager to take on the summer as one they’ll never forget as the film “… isn’t really about illness – it’s about what happens after. It’s about being 17 and weird and brilliant. It’s about surviving and then having to actually live.”
The film also stars James Norton, Jessica Gunning, and Neil Patrick Harris, alongside newcomers Daniel Quinn-Toye, Earl Cave, Ruby Stokes, Conrad Khan and Jasmine Elcock.
Sunny Dancer oversaw a Berlin International Film Festival premiere to approving audiences, going on to receive a Crystal Bear nomination.
Jaques shares producer credits with Ken Petrie.
Jaques other film credits include his comedy-drama Black Dog, starring himself and Jamie Flatters, as well as an appearance in Justin Haythe’s series The Serpent Queen.
Sunny Dancer hits UK cinemas on 14th August.
