With Stephen Colbert’s time on The Late Show soon ending, he’s recently teased what is next in store for him. In one of his final moments on the talk show, Colbert managed to sit down with the 44th U.S. President, Barack Obama. During the conversation, Obama showed support for one career move in particular for Colbert.

Stephen Colbert Has Sat With Barack Obama From The Colbert Report To The Late Show

Colbert joined The Late Show back in 2015, taking over for David Letterman. However, it’s been announced that the show will be coming to an end.

Reportedly, with the show’s end, CBS is retiring The Late Show‘s format. Colbert’s final episode is scheduled for May 21, 2026.

Throughout the years, Colbert has often interviewed Barack Obama. He even appeared on episodes of The Colbert Report, both as a candidate and a president.

Recently, Colbert once again had another chance to chat with the former president. During their most recent conversation, a pre-taped interview recorded at the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago, Colbert joked about being on the lookout for a new job, sharing, “a lot of people tell me I should run for president.”

Obama himself mused that the late-show host “had the look.” When asked how seriously he should take that, Obama continued, “The bar has changed.”

Colbert Previously Joked About His Own Presidential Run Earlier This Year

Obama added, “Let me put it this way, I think that you could perform significantly better than some folks that we’ve seen.” That said, when pressed on the matter, Obama denied that this was an official endorsement.

On the subject of running for president, as previously reported, Colbert has joked about the idea before. During an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers back in January, when discussing the idea, he joked, “That’s something I have discussed with my faith leader and my family. And if there is some way for me to serve the American people in some way, that could possibly be greater than a late-night television show, I get [people’s desire for] it.”

During the interview, Obama also reflected on his legacy. He shared, “I assume in my eulogy, somewhere it’ll be mentioned, ‘He was the first African American president.’ But what I want people to understand is that there was this extraordinary journey this country took to get to that point, and I was an episode in that.”

What is your reaction to Barack Obama’s recent share? Have you been following this story? Are you keeping up with The Late Show with Stephen Colbert as it comes to an end? Make sure you come back to TV Shows Ace for all the latest TV and celebrity news.
