The Eastern Ontario Regional Network (EORN) and Rogers Communications have announced that 40 new cell towers have been completed since Nov. 30, 2025, and that 5G services are available in 14 communities.
The communities where 5G services are now available are:
- City of Kawartha Lakes
- County of Frontenac
- County of Hastings
- County of Haliburton
- County of Lanark
- County of Northumberland
- County of Peterborough
- County of Renfrew
- County of Lennox and Addington
- United Counties of Leeds and Grenville
- United Counties of Stormont, Dundas, and Glengarry
- Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation
- Curve Lake First Nation
- Hiawatha First Nation
This announcement is part of the EORN Cell Gap project, a $300-million public-private partnership aimed at enhancing and expanding cellular services in rural communities across Eastern Ontario. According to the EORN, approximately $152 million of the project’s funding comes from both the federal and provincial governments, members of the Eastern Ontario Wardens’ Caucus (EOWC), and most of the Eastern Ontario Mayors’ Caucus.
Back in 2021, Rogers won the bidding process for the project and added that it will contribute the remaining funding.
Through the project, Rogers is constructing around 346 new towers (both newly built and shared with other providers), with 274 new towers now offering services in the region. Additionally, EORN says all of the upgrades to 311 existing towers have been completed using state-of-the-art 5G equipment.
