Google is introducing Gemini Intelligence on Android to help users get things done. Intelligence will roll out in waves on Samsung and Google handsets this summer and come to other Android devices later this year.
Not to be confused with Gemini Personal Intelligence, which leverages data people store in their Google ecosystem to inform Gemini, the new Gemini Intelligence is a bundle of features like automation, new browsing features in Chrome, and more.
Gemini will soon be able to perform more multi-step automations besides ordering a ride or a meal. App Automation will soon work across apps and use screen or image context. Google uses the example of looking at your shopping list on your notes app and then using Gemini to build a shopping cart with all of the items for delivery.
You’ll be able to track progress live via notifications when Gemini is working in the background, and it will wait for your command before completing a task. Automation isn’t available yet in Canada, unfortunately, but when it does become available, it should offer more than just ordering a ride or meal like its current iteration.
And starting in late June, Google is bringing Gemini to Chrome on Android devices. Chrome can summarize, compare content and even auto browse, which lets Chrome take over tasks like booking an appointment or reserving a parking spot. Further, with Gemini’s Personal Intelligence, Android will fill even more of those tiny text fields across apps, including Chrome.
Google’s Android keyboard, Gboard, will also correct the way you speak with Rambler, which gets rid of the “ums” and “likes” when you correct yourself while speaking. Google says Rambler only listens for the important parts, so you can speak naturally.
Android will also get a ‘Create My Widget’ feature soon. This will let you build custom widgets by describing what you want, such as creating a widget that suggests meal prep recipes every week.
