Reports from last week have confirmed that director Matt Reeves is growing the cast for his upcoming comic book adaptation, The Batman II, the highly anticipated follow-up to his 2022 film, The Batman.
It has since been confirmed that newcomers to Reeves’ interpretation of Gotham City include Marvel stars Sebastian Stan and Scarlett Johansson. Bryan Tyree Henry and Sebastian Koch are also in talks to join the cast. The director took to the social media platform X to tease his growing cast for the sequel.
The Batman II has since been pushed back, with the script being completed in June 2025 and filming set to begin this summer. Robert Pattinson, Andy Serkis, Jeffrey Wright, Colin Farrell, Jayme Lawson, Gil Perez-Abraham, and Barry Keoghan are all set to return.
The film stars Pattinson, Zoë Kravitz, Paul Dano, Wright, John Turturro, Peter Sarsgaard, Serkis, and Farrell, charting the early years of the Dark Knight’s crime-fighting days as a justice-seeking Riddler takes down Gotham’s corrupted politicians.
Reeves’ The Batman oversaw immense critical and fan acclaim upon release, scoring a Rotten Tomatoes rank of 85% from 527 critics who hailed it as one of the greatest Batman features, as well as grossing $770 million against its budget of $200 million. The film was followed by a spin-off HBO series, The Penguin, focusing on Farrell’s role from the film, with a sequel being confirmed in April 2022, with an original release date set for October 2027.
The Batman II’s comic universe will run alongside the new and fresh DCU, which kickstarted immediate success with James Gunn’s Superman, starring David Corenswet, and is due to grow with the upcoming Supergirl, Clayface, and The Brave and the Bold, set to introduce the DCU’s Batman.
