The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 league stage is rapidly approaching its conclusion, and the playoff race has now reached a fascinating stage. While a few teams have already confirmed their places in the top four, several others remain locked in a tense battle for survival heading into the final round of fixtures. With Net Run Rate (NRR) expected to play a huge role once again, every remaining match could drastically alter the standings.
IPL 2026 playoffs qualification scenario for all teams
Historically, 16 points have usually been enough to guarantee qualification for the IPL playoffs, although teams have previously sneaked through with 14, depending on superior Net Run Rate. This season has once again highlighted how competitive the tournament has become. While some teams peaked at the perfect time, others struggled with inconsistency and injuries during crucial moments of the campaign.
Here’s a look at every team’s current IPL 2026 qualification scenario.
1. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)
Royal Challengers Bengaluru have already secured qualification for the IPL 2026 playoffs and are now firmly focused on finishing inside the top two. Sitting comfortably on 18 points with one match remaining against SRH, RCB can finish with a maximum of 20 points. RCB has been the most consistent team of the season and currently looks like one of the strongest contenders for the title.
2. Gujarat Titans (GT)
Gujarat Titans have officially booked their playoff berth after reaching the 16-point mark. Shubman Gill and his team still have one game left against Chennai Super Kings and can finish the league stage with a maximum of 18 points. GT’s dominant bowling performances and consistent batting displays have once again made them one of the most balanced sides in the competition.
3. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)
Sunrisers Hyderabad have also qualified for the IPL 2026 playoffs after a stunning turnaround in the second half of the season. Pat Cummins side has won several crucial encounters and now sits on 16 points with one game remaining against RCB. A victory in that clash could significantly improve SRH’s chances of securing a top-two finish.
4. Rajasthan Royals (RR)
Rajasthan Royals currently remain the favourites to grab the final available playoff spot. RR are on 12 points and still have two matches left against LSG and MI. If Riyan Parag’s side wins both games, they will move to 16 points and almost certainly qualify for the playoffs. Even one victory could keep them alive, depending on Net Run Rate and other results.
5. Punjab Kings (PBKS)
Punjab Kings are still very much in the playoff race despite losing momentum in recent weeks. PBKS currently have 13 points and one game remaining against Lucknow Super Giants. A win would take them to 15 points, which could potentially be enough to qualify depending on how RR, KKR and other teams finish.
6. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)
Kolkata Knight Riders remain mathematically alive, but their chances are extremely slim. KKR are currently on 11 points with two matches left against MI and DC. Even if they win both fixtures and finish on 15 points, KKR will still need several other results to go in their favour.
7. Chennai Super Kings (CSK)
Chennai Super Kings are hanging by a thread in the playoff race. The five-time champions are currently on 12 points and can only reach a maximum of 14 points if they defeat Gujarat Titans in their final league match. CSK will need multiple teams above them to lose while also hoping their Net Run Rate remains competitive enough to sneak into the top four.
8. Delhi Capitals (DC)
Delhi Capitals face an uphill battle to qualify for the playoffs. Axar Patel and his team are currently on 10 points and have just one remaining game against KKR. DC can only reach 14 points and will require a near-perfect combination of results from other matches to stay alive in the race.
9. Mumbai Indians (MI)
Mumbai Indians have officially been eliminated from the IPL 2026 playoff race. Hardik Pandya and his team currently have eight points and can only finish with a maximum of 12. Despite having two games remaining, MI no longer has a mathematical chance of reaching the top four.
10. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)
Lucknow Super Giants were among the first teams to be knocked out of playoff contention this season. LSG currently sits on eight points and can only reach 12 even if they win their remaining two matches. A disappointing second half of the campaign ultimately ended their hopes of another playoff appearance.
