Ahead of her first solo outing as Supergirl, Milly Alcock will now reprise the role in the Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow.
The Australian actress first appeared as Supergirl/Kara Zor-El in last summer’s reboot, appearing alongside David Corenswet’s Superman/Clark Kent in a short cameo. However, the scene did lay the groundwork for where the character will go in her first solo outing in the DCU. ‘Supergirl’ will follow Alcock’s titular superhero across a space-faring adventure.
Jason Momoa will appear in a new role as Lobo. Before this, Momoa portrayed Aquaman in the now-defunct DCEU.
Corenswet will be appearing in ‘Supergirl’ as Superman, as evidenced by a recent trailer. Now, it’s the turn of Alcock, best known for House of the Dragon, to go the other way. The news broke as part of a profile piece published by Variety about Alcock.
Plot details for Man of Tomorrow are scarce, beyond a cryptic design on the cover of the script. James Gunn is set to write and direct the sequel to his ‘Superman’ debut. Corenswet and Alcock aren’t the only returning cast members.
Nicholas Hoult and Rachel Brosnahan will return as Lex Luthor and Lois Lane, respectively. Other supporting cast returnees include Edi Gathegi, Isabela Merced, Frank Grillo, Skyler Gisondo and Nathan Fillion. Aaron Pierre will reprise his role as Jon Stewart from Lanterns as well, while German actor Lars Eidinger will play big bad Brainiac in the film.
Alcock revealed in the interview that she didn’t familiarise herself with superhero movies as part of her preparation for Supergirl. The 26-year-old stated that she hasn’t watched the likes of Black Widow or Wonder Woman. She realised this wasn’t ideal, commenting that it “is probably not great… I should just lie.”
Subsequently, she revealed that the famous Supergirl red and blue suit won’t be as prevalent as expected. To clarify, Alcock claimed that: “I don’t wear it as much as people will think. It’s a journey.”
Supergirl opens in cinemas on June 25th.
