IO Interactive has released the final trailer for 007 First Light, the upcoming action-adventure video game based on the iconic James Bond film franchise, adaptations of the book and short stories series by author Ian Fleming. The game is set to showcase an original story for players to engage in, putting themselves in the secret service agent Bond, also known as 007, in his origin story, which involves earning his legendary quoted license to kill.
Hakan Abrak and Martin Emborg are credited as directors on 007 First Light, with Markus Friedl, Céline Gil and Jack Bowman serving as producers. Programming was handled by Andres Alonso, while Michael Vogt penned the game’s script with Rasmus Poulsen working to bring the imagery to life.
Patrick Gibson provides the voice and motion capture for a version of the MI6 agent characterised as 26-year-old and inexperienced. Additional characters in the game include M, played by Priyanga Burford, Q, played by Alastair Mackenzie and Miss Moneypenny, played by Kiera Lester.
Lennie James also has credits as Bond’s mentor, John Greenway, alongside Noémie Nakai as agent Charlotte Roth and Gemma Chan as psychology expert Selina Tan. Lenny Kravitz as the eccentric villain Bawma rounds out the cast.
007 First Light is officially the 42nd video game spin-off in the Bond franchise, following 007’s Aston Martin DB5 and 007’s Aston Martin Valhalla in 2021. The first Bond game, Shaken but Not Stirred, was released in 1982 for ZX Spectrum, with Richard Shepard Software working as developer and publisher.
The 2012 game, 007 Legends, was the last to be released under publisher Activision before the company had its production license for the spy media revoked. Activision published the earlier Bond game installments James Bond 007: Quantum of Solace, James Bond 007: Blood Stone and GoldenEye 007 / GoldenEye 007: Reloaded from 2008 to 2010.
007 First Light will be released for PlayStation 5, Windows and Xbox Series X/S on 27 May.
