Marjorie Taylor Greene has been both a supporter and critic of President Donald Trump during both of his presidencies. Recently, she talked about a joke the president made last year. During the conversation, she weighed in on Trump running for office for a third time in 2028.

Greene previously served as the U.S. representative for Georgia’s 14th congressional district, starting in the role back in 2021. After a feud with President Donald Trump, she ultimately resigned from the position in 2026.

During his first presidency, Greene was known for being a vocal advocate of Trump. However, their relationship changed during his second. Recently, Greene weighed in on the possibility of a third term with Trump as commander-in-chief.

Greene recently appeared on Alex Jones’ show, where she discussed a comment made by Trump to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky last year. At the time, Ukraine’s election had been postponed due to the country’s war with Russia.

Trump had previously commented, “So you say, during the war, you can’t have elections. So, let me just see. Three and a half years from now, so you mean if we happen to be in a war with somebody, no more elections? Oh, that’s good.”

Speaking with Jones, Greene shared, “I’m concerned. And he said it jokingly. But at the same time, knowing President Trump, I looked at that, and I thought, I don’t know if he’s saying it, joking.”

After Jones noted that he recognized this clip, Greene continued, “So, that type of behavior is someone planting an idea over and over. And again, he constantly says it so that he can normalize the idea and test the support and test people’s reactions. But saying it over and over and over again normalizes the idea.”

“And I think it’s incredibly dangerous, and no one should ever accept it. Absolutely, absolutely not. There cannot be a third term, no. That’s against our laws. That’s against the Constitution. There is no third term. And if this country is at war, no, our election should not be canceled, absolutely not.”

For his part, whether or not he was joking at the time, Trump has shared mixed views about whether or not he would be interested in running for a third term. Speaking with NBC back in March 2025, he noted that there were “methods” that can allow him to run again, but noted that the law generally only allowed a president two terms.

This past October, however, Trump seemed resigned to the limit. Speaking with CBS, he noted that he was “not allowed to run” again, though shared he would have like to if it was possible.
