90 Day Fiance stars Patrick Mendes and Thais Ramone have had an interesting love affair, but he just filed for divorce. Moreover, he is asking for sole custody of their daughter, which raises a lot of questions. Now, it has come out that Patrick is in massive debt, so is that was caused the initial split? Keep reading for more details on this troubled romance.
Patrick Mendes May Be Broke
When Patrick Mendes wanted to connect with his paternal side in Brazil, he decided to look for a lady over there. That was when he set his location to Brazil, and he hoped that he could meet someone. Plus, he was hopeful that he could find a Portuguese teacher along the way, and that was when he met Thais Ramone. Within a year, they became engaged, and their romance played out on 90 Day Fiance. It was anything but easy, given that he had an outlandish brother, Patrick was very insecure, there were money problems, and so much more.
They did get married and had a daughter, but there was still so much that needed to be worked on. Patrick and Thais are set to appear on Season 3 of The Last Resort, but he has just filed for divorce. As soon as that came out, Thais was arrested. Now it has been revealed that Patrick is in over $100K worth of debt. Again, money has long been an issue, but this is severe. In 2025, the reality star was sued by a bank and two credit card companies. The total that he owes is upward of $141,000. Additionally, between February and April 2025, three civil suits were filed against Patrick Mendes.

In February 2025, AmEx filed the first complaint. Following them was Truist Bank for a loan that the 90 Day Fiance star allegedly had taken out. Finally, JPMorgan Chase Bank entered the chat in April 2025. They alleged that Patrick had failed to make a payment for over a year. He has not attempted a debt consolidation or bankruptcy that is known of. This could be why the couple went on The Last Resort, solely for the paycheck.
Is This Why They Struggled?
Patrick Mendes and Thais Ramone may have headed to The Last Resort to help with finances. Or, the 90 Day Fiance couple needed help because of his debt. That could have been interfering with their marriage and could have been the ultimate dealbreaker. As to why Patrick wants sole custody is unknown, but viewers will know on June 1st. Hopefully, they can work together for their daughter, and she does not suffer because of her parents.
