Wheel of Fortune is a game of luck more than skill. The wheel will land where it’s going to land. What happens next is up to the contestant. One contestant left the audience in shock with a very wrong answer that cost them $76K. Keep reading for all the details on the incident.
Wheel Of Fortune Fans Blast ‘Greedy’ Gameplay
Whether hosted by Ryan Seacrest or Pat Sajak, Wheel of Fortune has a legacy as one of the most popular game shows in the history of television. Ryan Seacrest definitely hosts differently than what some viewers are used to. But no matter who is hosting, the contestants have been making one huge mistake for decades.
Fans of “America’s Favorite Game” took to social media to call out a common mistake that the contestants make. The winner of each round is determined by how much money they’ve won. Sometimes taking risks is the only way to come out on top. One common risky move is to keep spinning the wheel even when you already know the answer to the puzzle. Spinning the wheel can earn more money or it can backfire if it lands on bankrupt.
Viewers took to Reddit to discuss an episode earlier this week where one contestant seemed to risk it all several times. Wheel of Fortune fans shared their thoughts on when it’s good to keep spinning and when it’s time to stop taking risks.
- “Depends if he needed to catch up or not”
- “My personal rule is that if there are any double letters left, I have to spin to try to get them, but if it’s all single letters, just solve.”
- “I was rooting for the wheel eventually when it was his turn.”
- “Jason had an energy the entire episode like if he didn’t score high enough his bookie was gonna break his legs.”

The Bonus Round involves a lot of risk, too. Sometimes blurting out answers can win the puzzle and other times, it can send you home without the grand prize.
Contestant Loses $76K With Shocking Wrong Answer
The Wheel of Fortune episode that aired on May 21 started off with a shockingly wrong answer. Sharon Stukes, from Wilmington, North Carolina, faced off against Brady Stonesifer, from St. Petersburg, Florida, and Jeremy Daigle from Chicago, Illinois. The grandmother of five immediately messed up the first toss-up round.
The toss-up rounds skip the wheel entirely and randomly reveals letters on the board until someone guesses correctly. The board had the puzzle LOW_R T_E BO_M when Sharon Stukes incorrectly guessed “Lower the Bomb.”
The answer was, of course, “Lower The Boom,” which Brady Stonesifer guessed correctly. He later went home in second place with $19,745. Jeremy Daigle ultimately won the game, but didn’t get the Bonus Round puzzle, which would have put his total over $76K.
Sharon Stukes didn’t win any money but the show gave her $1,000. Tell us in the comments if you would take risks on Wheel of Fortune or play it safe.
