Seth Meyers Joined Late Night In 2014, Hosting The Show’s Fourth Incarnation
For many, Meyers first rose to fame as a cast member on Saturday Night Live. Staying on the show from 2001 to 2014, he served as the sketch comedy’s head writer.
Following his time on the show, in 2014, Meyers became the host of his own late-night talk show, Late Night with Seth Meyers. At the time, Meyers was taking over for Jimmy Fallon on the NBC show, as the fellow SNL alum became the host of The Tonight Show.
Following the Memorial Day holiday weekend, NBC recently announced that Meyers’ show would be dark all week. This means reruns will air on Monday through Friday.
As noted by Last Night On, a week of repeats admittedly isn’t too surprising in May. However, the timing is noteworthy, as this follows The Late Show with Stephen Colbert ending the previous week.
Colbert’s show, which he took over from David Letterman in 2015, aired its series finale on May 21, 2026. Notably, CBS previously confirmed that they would be retiring The Late Show‘s format altogether.
Some Fans Suspect This Week Could Be A Glimpse At What Is To Come In The World Of Late-Night Television
Thanks to this, Late Night‘s break highlights a bit of a void for late-night talk shows this week. As the outlet noted, this is even giving viewers a glimpse of a time when these talk shows are no longer in fashion and making up the late-night schedule.
For the time being, however, Jimmy Kimmel Live! will still be back on the air during the week. However, that show is going to go on its own summer break soon.
Viewers will still see Meyers in the interim, with the network airing reruns in lieu of new episodes. Thursday saw the rerun of an April 27 episode that featured Rose Byrne and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. Friday will see the repeat of the April 29 episode, which hosted Lena Dunham and Karl Urban.
At this time, there is no official word on when Late Night with Seth Meyers will return. However, the show’s track record suggests Meyers and his team will be back on Monday.
