The stage is set for a thrilling conclusion to IPL 2026 as Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Gujarat Titans (GT) prepare to lock horns in the grand final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday night. After weeks of high-intensity cricket, two of the tournament’s strongest teams have earned the right to battle for the coveted trophy. With world-class stars spread across both camps and momentum firmly on their side, fans are expecting a contest worthy of an IPL final. However, even on the eve of the title clash, much of the cricketing conversation continues to revolve around a young superstar, whose extraordinary season has left a lasting impression on players and experts alike.

Shubman Gill names ‘best batter of current time’

GT captain Shubman Gill reserved special praise for the 15-year-old batting prodigy after GT’s victory over Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2. While Gill played a crucial role in guiding his side to the final with a match-winning century, he admitted that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi‘s fearless batting display was one of the most remarkable performances he had witnessed.

The young Rajasthan Royals opener nearly pulled off a stunning chase on his own, smashing 96 runs from just 47 deliveries against a formidable Gujarat bowling attack. His innings kept Rajasthan in contention until the final stages and earned admiration from cricket fans around the globe.

Speaking after the match, Gill described Sooryavanshi as one of the finest batters in world cricket at the moment. The GT skipper highlighted the youngster’s exceptional hand speed, batting mechanics and fearless mindset, praising the way he continued attacking despite facing immense pressure during the chase.

“I think it’s just a remarkable season for him. I have not seen anyone bat like this. At this moment, he’s one of the best batters in the world. It’s remarkable to see him, not just the hitting, but his batting mechanics and his hand speed, no matter what opposition he plays against,” said Gill at post-match chat.

One of the defining moments of Sooryavanshi’s innings came when he was struck on the helmet by a sharp Kagiso Rabada bouncer. Rather than being shaken by the blow, the teenager calmly completed the mandatory concussion assessment before returning to continue his assault on the Gujarat bowlers. His response showcased a level of composure and maturity rarely seen in players of his age.

“The way he didn’t care after the flyer, but still managed to come back into the game and kept putting us under pressure, that just tells you about the mindset. I think in years to come, the opposition who plays against him will have a tough time,” added Gill.

The innings also added another chapter to his record-breaking season. During his knock, Sooryavanshi became the fastest player to reach 1,000 IPL runs in terms of balls faced, surpassing Andre Russell‘s previous benchmark. He also became the second-fastest player to the milestone in terms of innings, trailing only Shaun Marsh.

Although Rajasthan’s campaign ended in disappointment, Sooryavanshi finished the tournament as the Orange Cap holder with a staggering 776 runs from 16 matches at an average of 48.50 and a phenomenal strike rate of 237.30. His tally included one century and five half-centuries, firmly establishing him as the breakout star of IPL 2026. His sensational performances have already been rewarded with a maiden India A call-up for the upcoming tri-series in Sri Lanka, where he will look to continue his rapid rise in the game.

A high-scoring clash on the cards in IPL 2026 final

As attention shifts to the final, anticipation is building around what could be one of the most entertaining matches of the season. Both Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Gujarat Titans possess explosive batting line-ups and match-winning bowling attacks, making the contest difficult to predict.

RCB will once again rely on the experience and consistency of Virat Kohli, while captain Rajat Patidar has led from the front throughout the campaign. The presence of Tim David, Devdutt Padikkal, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood further strengthens Bengaluru’s chances of lifting their maiden IPL trophy.

Gujarat Titans, meanwhile, have looked like a complete unit throughout the tournament. Captain Gill has been in outstanding form, while Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler have provided significant firepower at the top. With Rabada and Mohammed Siraj leading the pace attack, GT have all the ingredients required to challenge RCB once again.

With superstars on both sides and the IPL trophy at stake, cricket fans can expect a high-scoring and fiercely contested battle in Ahmedabad. Whether it is Gill’s Gujarat Titans or Patidar’s Royal Challengers Bengaluru, one team will end the night as champions of IPL 2026.
