James Van Der Beek Was America’s Hearthrob
For six seasons, viewers were glued to their televisions as James Van Der Beek captured young hearts on Dawson’s Creek. He played the titular role and was equal parts sensitive and creative. At the same time, the actor took on more serious roles in Varsity Blues. Yet, he also had a comedic side, which came out when he hosted Saturday Night Live. James danced into everyone’s hearts on Dancing With the Stars, but sadly, he was diagnosed with colorectal cancer. The father of six passed away in February 2026, leaving behind a wife, Kimberly.
Yet, before he married Kimberly, James was married to actress Heather McComb. She had roles on Party of Five and Grey’s Anatomy. The two tied the knot in 2003, but split in 2009. Their divorce was finalized the following year, but that was also the same year that he married Kimberly. Now, Heather has found her forever as she walked down the aisle with Scott Michael Campbell. He is also an actor, and the two wed on May 30th in Missoula, Montana. Heather, 49, had 13 people on her side of the party while her beau had 12.
When James Van Der Beek passed away, Heather was devastated. She penned a beautiful tribute to him and his family:
- I am heartbroken over the loss of beloved James. I am especially heartbroken for his incredible wife Kimberly, his beautiful children and his amazing family, Jim, Jared, Juliana and all of his family and friends who I know he loved deeply.
Heather McComb was thoughtful in her words, and though they did not last, she was thankful for what they had.
