Leeds captain Ethan Ampadu has signed a new, four-year contract, according to club chairman Paraag Marathe.
Ampadu was an instrumental figure in the club’s successful return to the Premier League, winning the Players’ Player of the Year and Player of the Year awards with a series of commanding displays in midfield.
The Wales international still had two years remaining on his previous deal but Leeds have handed him an improved deal that commits him to the Elland Road club until 2030.
Marathe told the Yorkshire Evening Post: “Ethan has signed an extension and we’ve got him locked up for four years. It’s all done.
“Ethan was so instrumental for our whole year, and he’s such a captain on and off the pitch. Everything he does is true leadership.
“He’s sort of almost like one of us on the pitch, but he’s also one of the guys. We all thought it was such an important first step for this upcoming window.”
Leeds finished in 14th place in their first season back in the top flight with Ampadu winning plenty of plaudits for his leadership on the field.
The 25-year-old has made 126 appearances for Leeds despite suffering from two serious knee injuries and has also won 62 caps for his country.

Leeds’ 2026 form finally ended speculation around the future of head coach Daniel Farke.
And Marathe says the German is key to the Yorkshire club’s planning moving forward.
He added: “My hope and expectation is that he’s with us for a while. I know that he’s got another 12 months [on his contract], but I think we both have an interest in keeping this going. At the right time and in the right way, we’ll have those conversations. He’s a big part of our future.
“What we have done that I’m proud of, and that we all should be proud of, is we got Leeds on a track going in the right direction at the right speed. And we’re on the train right now, I’m on the train, Daniel’s on the train, we’re all on the train.”
